In 2020 Kpop boy group, Monsta X, announced the exciting news that they would be going on a world tour after the release of their “All About Luv” album. Monbebes, Monsta X’s official fandom name, were all excited to be a part of the group’s long-awaited tour. Unfortunately, in March of 2020 the world underwent a lock down in response to the Corona Virus. Kpop fans everywhere were devastated to hear that their chance to see their favorite idols would no longer happen.
For the past two years it has been a roller coaster of emotions for Monbebes. Since 2020 the event has been both postponed or canceled in a moment's notice. It had been postponed all throughout 2021 and finally, in 2022 after multiple postponements and cancellations, both the group and the fans are at the end of their rope. Unfortunately, concerts that were supposed to be held in Canada or even Boston are now canceled leaving fans upset that they won’t be able to see their idols. And for those whose concerts will still be put on they were still postponed.
Here is what Taralyn Sims, age 39, had to say about the initial postponement, “I was not surprised. I was sad. Damn Covid”. Sims had originally bought her tickets in January of 2020 and has been waiting for the tour to commence since then. When asked if she thought the concert would truly happen this year, this is what she had to say, “I’m hopeful the tour will still happen this year. Some of the members are supposed to go to mandatory military service at the end of the year, Currently, Shownu, my bias, is in the military but the rest of the group are doing ok without him”.
Unfortunately, not all fans were fortunate enough to still go to their tour stop. Josephine Vera, age 22, was supposed to see the group in Boston, but it was unfortunately one of the dates that the group canceled. Vera was asked if she had been waiting since 2020 for the concert and this was her answer, “No, I... since 2021 because I remember exactly it was exactly a year when I got um... when they said they had postponed it and then they cancelled my stop completely”. Vera elaborated that she had bought V.I.P. tickets to the event which would have allowed her and her sister to not only attend the venue, but to also meet the members in person. Fortunately, she was able to get her money refunded but she went on to say, “yeah... I was so sad”. She stated that she was contemplating still going to the concert at a different location, but she would no longer be able to buy V.I.P. tickets.
In an interview, the group was asked how likely they thought the tour would happen this year and member Hyungwon answered, “20%”! The member’s answer doesn’t install much confidence into the group or worse, their fans, but they’re still hopeful. The concert date for LA County has been set to June 11th and Monbebes, including myself, are sitting on pins and needles as the time draws closer. Fans want nothing more than to see the group perform after waiting two long years, but they understand if it has to be cancelled since they wouldn’t want to put anyone at risk of the virus.
